Driveway Permits
"No person shall construct or maintain any driveway across any sidewalk or curbing without first obtaining a driveway permit from the Village."
On August 8, 2005, the Campbellsport Village Board of Trustees adopted Ordinance No. 289 which replaces Ordinance No. 285. The new ordinance clarified language and establishes additional guidelines.
This ordinance is in effect and is being enforced!
On September 28, 2005, the Campbellsport Village Board of Trustees adopted Ordinance #290 which amends Ordinance #289. Additional language makes it clear that no "grandfathering" provisions for driveway permits exist. Ordinance #290 also provides that any portion of a driveway located between a sidewalk and private property within the street right-of-way may be wider than the maximum allowed opening dimension. (This Ordinance becomes effective upon publication, scheduled for October 6, 2005.)
Failure to apply for a permit prior to driveway construction will result in a fine; and the driveway must be brought into conformance with adopted construction standards and requirements. Avoid costly mistakes by applying for the permit a minimum of three days BEFORE construction begins.
Get the facts before you build...
-
Only one driveway opening is permitted per property.
-
Reconstruction of an existing driveway also requires a permit.
-
No driveway opening may exceed 26 feet as measured from the top of the curb. Driveway openings for duplex homes with one driveway serving adjacent garages may be up to 32 feet wide.
-
Sidewalk must be incorporated into the driveway if the Village has an approved sidewalk plan for your street. Even if your street does not currently have sidewalk, the Director of Public Works can advise you where sidewalk may be located in the future. Check first!
-
Permit fee is $25.00. Apply at the Village Hall.
-
Driveway permits must be obtained three business days prior to construction to allow time for the Village to locate utilities, and expire after 30 days.
